Die 5 Elemente in der Musik

Entsprechend der 5-Elemente-Lehre lassen sich alle materiellen, geistigen und seelischen Aspekte des Universums den fünf großen Grundelementen Holz, Feuer, Erde, Wasser und Metall zuordnen, so auch Laute, Töne und Intervalle. (Nicht umsonst ist die Pentatonik das ursprünglichste und nachweislich älteste Tonsystem.)

Musik gilt bis heute als unmittelbare Verbindung zwischen menschlichem Geist und Universum, und die Harmonisierung des Shen als oberster Lenker aller psychischen und körperlichen Aktivitäten steht auch in der Traditionellen Chinesischen Medizin (TCM) nach wie vor im Vordergrund.

According to the WuXing philosophy, all aspects of the material, mental and spiritual world can be attributed to the 5 basic elements Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. This also includes sounds, musical notes and intervals (hence, the Pentatonic system as the most original and verifiably oldest tonal system). Up until today, music has been recognized as the most immediate link between the human mind and the Universe. Thus, harmonizing the Shen, the top control of all psychological and physical activities, still is the pivot in treatment according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Zur Bereicherung unserer musikalischen Landschaft und als Impuls für die Zukunft ist so eine völlig neue und intuitive, musikalischkünstlerische Interpretation der 5 Elemente entstanden. Ganz im Sinne von Wu Xing ist cgong 5-elements music experience ein offenes, sich stetig weiterentwickelndes Projekt, das sowohl zur Teilnahme als rein empfangender, lauschender und fühlender Zuhörer einlädt als auch eine musikalische Begegnung in unterschiedlichster Besetzung zulässt.

Feeling the need for tapping into this immense original wisdom and transposing it in a way so that people of Today can relate to it, Davide Zavatti and Anne Baumgart have studied the Eastern Classics as well as modern Western works of musicology and philosophy (Huángdì Nèijíng, Hui Zhang, Pfrogner, Rennert, Platsch…) in great detail. Based on this theoretical groundwork, they endeavoured to research and experience the essential sound qualities of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water themselves. From this has emerged an unprecedented and completely intuitive interpretation of the 5 elements and their stages of transformation which adds to our music landscape and may be perceived as an im)pulse for the future of Music and the Arts. Keeping with the idea of WuXing, cgong 5-elements music experience is an open, continuously evolving project that invites you to participate as a merely receiving, listening and sensing guest as well as to take part in a music encounter and dialogue with varying instrumentation.
